Google Earth is an amazing software. It brings GIS technology to the everyday people. Not only it allows users to find places on the face of the Earth, but also it allows users to share information. It's digitization function is quite user friendly. It took me less than 15 mins to find, digitize, and save a placemark of my home in Hong Kong.
