Wakamaru looks at the ceiling
Wakamaru is a robot developed by the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries LTD. The company plans to sell about 100 of these robot this year. This robot has some interesting features.
- Knows the owner’s daily life rhythm and can manages the owner’s schedule.
- Looks after the house while the owner is away
- Report usual changes in the house (e.g., unexpected motions in the house)
What I found most interesting is its capability to determine its location in the house. The robot has a camera mounted on the top of its head to capture images of the ceiling. These images are then sent to an image recognition program to determine the robot’s location. Neat!
